Full description from the venue
Organic Recipes brings together the work of Kai Oh, Yeongbin Yoon, Yi Young, and Hani Yikyung Han, each tracing the ways in which knowledge, material, and sensory experience are formed. Through distinct approaches, the four artists reconsider established systems through which we perceive and record the world, drawing attention to forms of existence and sensation that are often overlooked or lost within normative frameworks.
Yeongbin Yoon incorporates saengsaek (生色)—colors derived from organic matter—into her paintings, critically examining the artificial systems through which materials are standardized and commodified. Through digital collage and sculptural works, Kai Oh traces latent narratives that bring the ecologies of nonhuman beings hidden within the city into dialogue with family, everyday life, and identity. Yi Young overlaps the processes of cooking and sculpture, attending to the interactions between material, body, and performative time. Hani Yikyung Han explores sensory microclimates where language, objects, and memory intersect through “soft images,” which transform the surfaces of objects, and acts of textual translation.
By dismantling and reconfiguring conventional structures of knowledge and everyday life, Organic Recipes considers how new modes of perception and affect might emerge beyond established frameworks. The exhibition is co-curated by sangheeut and curator Jinju Kim.
