The Season of Time

Yoon Byung Rock's meticulously rendered apples carry memories of his hometown and childhood, the turning seasons and the abundance of harvest. The show centers on the time held in a single fruit, and on shaped supports that follow the contours of boxes and fruit so the image extends into the gallery.

Full description from the venue

Beaux-Arts Gallery presents The Season of Time, a solo exhibition by Yoon Byung Rock, whose meticulously rendered apples have become one of the most recognizable motifs in Korean realist painting. For Yoon, the apple is more than a subject of hyperrealist representation: it carries memories of his hometown and childhood, the passage of the seasons, and the abundance of harvest. The exhibition focuses on the time accumulated within a single fruit—from blossom to ripening—and on the artist’s longstanding investigation of the boundary between painting and physical space. Moving beyond the conventional rectangular canvas, Yoon uses shaped supports that follow the contours of boxes and fruit, allowing the image to extend visually into the gallery. The exhibition brings together these formal experiments with the artist’s sustained reflection on time, memory, nature, and abundance.
